Our Story

Founded in 2010, Inner Fish Theatre Society is a non-profit interdisciplinary performance organization based in Kelowna, B.C.

We collaborate with other local non-profit organizations to provide contemporary, professional live art experiences. Our work spans public art, theatre, interactive and immersive installations, roaming sound art, and hybrid forms, and has been showcased in Vancouver, Victoria, Vernon, Revelstoke, Calgary, Edmonton, Belgium, and the Netherlands.

Since 2017, we have proudly produced the Living Things International Arts Festival (LT). Held annually over 10 days in January, this festival showcases a diverse range of performance genres and styles, focusing on formal innovation and object-based live arts such as mask performance, puppetry, music, dance, and interactive installations.

LT began with a budget of $5,000 in 2017 and has grown to approximately $100,000, supported by UBCO, Canada Council, British Columbia Arts Council, City of Kelowna, Canadian Heritage, and local sponsors and donors. We have co-presented with the PuSh Festival (Vancouver), the High Performance Rodeo (Calgary), Usine C (Montréal), and On the Boards (Seattle). Since its inception, LT has copresented francophone artists with the Centre Culturel Francophone de l’Okanagan and offered student workshops at l'École de L'Anse-au-sable.

Our festival program includes workshops and artist talks for the general public, as well as guest instruction in university courses. Local artists are featured annually in a cabaret format, which includes an experimental music series—a concert and a public improvisation with dancers and visual artists. Visiting artists participate in these events, fostering connections between local and touring artists.
